Friday July 12 at 7pm our speaker will be Dr. Steve Cassimy. He will also speak on Sabbath the 13th twice, once in the morning and also in the afternoon after we have lunch.
A little about the speaker:
Dr. Steve D. Cassimy is a native of Trinidad, West Indies. He received his elementary and part of his secondary education in Trinidad.
He attended Kingsway College in Canada and graduated in 1976 with an Associate of Arts degree. He attended Burman University (formerly known as Canadian University College) from 1976 to 1978, graduating with a Bachelor of Theology degree.
He was the Youth and Associate Pastor of Westmount SDA church from 1978 to 1979. He attended the Theological Seminary from 1979 to 1981 and completed the Master of Divinity degree. In addition, he completed the Marriage and Family Commitment Leadership Training.
In 1981, Dr. Cassimy returned to Montreal to pastor the La Salle and Mount Zion SDA churches. In 1984, he assumed the position of Campus Ministries Chaplain at Crawford Adventist Academy in Toronto, and later served as the Pastor of the Downsview SDA church.
In 1987, Dr. Cassimy became the Senior Pastor at the Perth Avenue SDA church, a position he held for nine years. In 1997, Dr. Cassimy became the Senior Pastor at the West Toronto SDA church. In 1998, Pastor Cassimy accepted the call to be the Senior Pastor of Grand Concourse SDA Temple in the Bronx, NY a position he held for nine and a half years. He served as the Ministerial Secretary, Family Ministries Director, Personal Ministries Secretary, and English Ministries Director for the Greater New York Conference. Dr. Cassimy is also the host of the television program Pathway of Hope which is seen on 3ABN and Hope TV.
In 1994, Dr. Cassimy received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Andrews University. Dr. Cassimy served as a member of the Board of Directors from the SDA church in Canada and the Human Relations Advisory for the North American Division. He was also a member of the North American Division Ministerial Advisory and Family Ministries Advisory. In 2002, Dr. Cassimy graduated as a United Chaplain in the State of New York. He has also served on the Conference Committee and various other committees for the past (40) forty years.
Dr. Cassimy is married to Marilyn Harper, a nurse, formally of London, England. They have two adult children, David, a businessman, and Lavona, a social worker, and two grandsons, Jamel and Tristan. Both children are graduates of Oakwood College. The Cassimys share a unique ministry in the North American Division as they seek to establish couples clubs in many of our Adventist churches.
Dr. Cassimy has spoken on six continents and in most of the Caribbean Islands, Europe, Africa, Canada, India, the Philippines, Australia, the Ukraine, Brazil, and across the United States.
Dr. Cassimy, Dr. Abraham Jules, and Dr. Nik Satelmajer have published a book for the Ministerial Department of the General Conference entitled, "A Guide to Effective Pastoral Ministry" and he contributed a chapter in the book "Called" which was released at the 2015 GC Session. Drs. Jules, Cassimy, Satelmajer and Morris are presently working on a book projected to be released in the future (on the Sabbath and the family). In May 2018, Pastor Cassimy completed one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
